Sydney... 06/07/08.06.11

And now, little Frenchie in Sydney! Intense three-day visit for unforgettable memories!

First day in Sydney: I decide, on this sunny morning, to visit the most famous city in Australia. Being hosted in Mosman, on the other side of the bay, I take the ferry. 20 minutes to be lulled by the waves and dreamt while I see the opera at the port entrance and the bridge, another symbol of the city. Once landed, I walk on the Opera House. This construction is truly impressive. These massive hulls look like sails and when you come to the waterfront, it seems that opera will set sail for an unknown destination ... Magic! I continue my discovery by the Botanic Garden, the green lung of the city. I go from the greenhouses to the palm grove, from the seashores to the garden of succulents. I meet ibis, cockatoos and other native australian birds. During my walk, I hear some sounds from...  above! So I raise my eyes and I discover, hanging over my head, thousands of giant bats! Awesome! I also discover the location of the first Australian farm, a tree planted in 1882 ... Then, having reach the limits of the park, I return to the city center, at the bottom of Sydney Tower, a huge 305m tower whose top floor is covered with gold. Visible from anywhere in Sydney, it's a well known meeting place. Then, after wandering around the streets, I fin myself at Sydney Observatory. The museum is full of wonders for those interested in astronomy: telescopes, star maps, mechanisms recreating the movement of planets ... And the view of the garden is superb. I continue my discovery by crossing the Sydney Harbour Bridge. This bridge is wonderful. And very high! After coming back ashore, I discover the Rocks, area beside the harbor, where I have to catch my ferry. Busy first day and I'm tiring!

Second day: a lot calmer (sore feet!). I decid to go to Darling Harbour with restaurants, marinas, museums, gardens. I visit the aquarium where I see a dugong, rare animal, living in auqtralian oceans. They are the origin of the legend of mermaids. I wonder why because they do not really look like the image people have of the sirens! It seems that the sounds they produce are like songs. After the aquarium, I visit the marina and the Chinese garden.

Finally the last day: this time, I only visit the Australian Museum. It gathers everything that have a link with Australia together: Aboriginal culture, animal life and plant species, extinct species and prehistoric dinosaurs, minerals found in Australian soils, ...

Sydney is definitely a very beautiful city. And, like the Australians people, it is "relax"! This return to civilization is nice after all these weeks spent away from everything. However, after three full days, it's time for me to close my suitcase and go back on the train to my next destination: Moree.
